IL Congressman Mark Kirk: Health premiums will increase $2,300 for 612,000 Illinois citizens

Congressman Mark Kirk (1oth district) voted against the health care bill passed by the house tonight. Kirk has been outspoken about the plan and even talked of repealing the bill if he is elected into the Senate. He is running for President Obama’s old seat against Illinois Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias.

Here is Kirk’s statement tonight:

I support health care reforms that decrease costs and boost access without tax increases or cuts to Medicare,” Congressman Kirk said. “The legislation passed by the House will increase health insurance premiums by $2,300 for 612,000 Illinois citizens, cut Medicare by $500 billion, including Medicare Advantage cuts for 121,722 Illinois seniors, and raise taxes by $500 billion. Caterpillar, a major Illinois employer, would see its health care costs increase by 20 percent, or $100 million, in the first year alone. In the teeth of the Great Recession, this legislation puts thousands of Illinois jobs at risk and stalls an economic recovery. It is unfortunate that instead of passing a bipartisan bill that reforms lawsuits, allows families to buy insurance across state lines and protects the doctor-patient relationship, we are left with a very partisan bill that explodes the deficit, increases health care costs and raises your taxes.”

This is a horrible day for America. We cannot continue to hit up the taxpayer to subsidize services for Americans. Why couldn’t Congress have passed a bill that allowed people with no insurance to buy into the insurance benefits of the Federal Employees?

Let’s boot them all out in the next election and repeal the bill.

    1) Can anyone actually say that there is a “Great Recession” when there are ads to buy dog food in the refrigerated case at the supermarket?

    2) I thought it wasn’t cool to trust the government? But now it is OK? I am suspicious. Does this mean people everywhere will now start following laws and rules? I can’t wait! Let’s start with drivers’ licenses and auto insurance. It’s been the law to have those for a long time! Maybe by 2014 everyone will have that, to be ready for the mandatory health care stuff! Just a suggestion, it’s good practice!

As a taxpayer, if I have to pay more for health care reform, I am happy to do it.

Right now, we are all paying dearly to support 3 wars (in dollars and lives), and to bail out the wrecked financial system that has affected millions in this country. But apparently, that’s okay.

It’s a beautiful thing, ain’t it? It’s got a kinda Scorsese “Mean Streets” sort of thing going on.
The David Romanus character “Michael” (CHINA) has really had enough of Deniro’s “Johnny Boy” (USA) throwing money around that Johnny Boy doesn’t even have, yet he still owes a ton of debt to Michael. Then after Johnny Boy keeps buying rounds of drinks for strangers and picking up barfly girls, he gives a big “F.U.” to Michael. Let’s just say that Johnny Boy’s behavior was what got him in the end.
    “Bye, bye, Miss American Pie…”

Kirk’s statement implies that it doesn’t help anyone in IL. That seems unlikely to be true.

@ #5… I’m sure “somebody” will be getting some “special” help in Illinois. It just won’t be the taxpayers.
