Second City 50th anniversary tickets going for $1800 on Craigslist? That’s one expensive improv set.
The Trib is reporting that tickets for the 50th anniversary Second City show are going for $1800 on Craigslist. $1800 to see Steven Colbert and Steven Carrell do improv. Damn, I wish they had Craigslist when I saw these guys at Second City Northwest in the early 90’s. $1800? The founders of Second City would be rolling in their grave Gold Coast apartments.
This just in: My buddy has an out-of-focus picture of Steve Carrell when he was at Second City in 1992. He’ll sell it to you for $250.
My wife and I were talking about the rumor that Steven Tyler is leaving Aerosmith. Once we got past “this should have happened 10 years ago” jokes, we talked about why it is a big deal that Tyler is hanging up his scarves. These old-timers continue playing because they’ve become an industry. They support so many employees and their families. Roadies, technicians, accountants, stage designers, studio engineers, tour promoters, etc. If Aerosmith dies off, so do thousands of jobs (okay, maybe hundreds). So my hypothesis is that the American economy needs Aerosmith. Can the government please intervene?
In other news:
They are supposedly handing out the new Chicago Current newspapers this morning at select L platforms. I hope the RedEye peeps don’t get territorial and it turns into a mini-newspaper gang fight.
So Timeout Chicago takes the radical Alderman Joe Moore to task. It turns out he isn’t as radical as his reputation boasts. He’s really middle-of-the-road with a side of foie gras.
They turned Pontiac into a high-end walk-up taco joint. I hope the Flash taco peeps don’t get territorial and it turns into a mini-taco gang fight. I guess Twitter is having problems with Dolinsky’s tweets from the restaurant’s opening. I hope this doesn’t turn into a food (critic) fight.
