Great photos. And what the story behind the Mammoth Life Building on King Dr? I’ve seen it or passed it more times that I can count
These photos are awesome. I am particularly fond of the BP Bridge & Millennium Park Park pic. The contrasts are stunning! So Mr. Bey…when are you going to settle down and compose a lil’ book of photos and commentary?
Great photos! My favorite is the one of Lakeside Center. I think it gives a great perspective of the building that is probably never seen by most people. It does a great job of emphasizing the building’s horizontal lines and the broad overhanging roof – a great marriage of the Chicago-born Prairie and Chicago-raised International styles of architecture. I doubt if the average “hater” ever considers that when they advocate for its demolition.
@Sergio: Thank you. I’ve never figured out why that building hasn’t been re-developed, or even who owns it. Would love to see the interior, though.
@Raquel: Thank you, also. I’m hoping to begin that later this year. I might also be exhibiting some stuff too, so I’ll be sure to keep everyone posted.
@AMG: And thank you. I found that angle by accident while photographing the Adler for an upcoming post. I’ve lived here all my life and never noticed how well you could see McC Place from there.
@Lee Bey: I researched the Mammoth Life Building… I know who owns it. You may want to contact them to see if you can seek a peek inside.
Hi –
I picked up your blog from Windy Citizen. Thought you might want to check out if you haven’t already.
@Raquel: much obliged! Can you email it to me at lee@leebey.com?
@Jo: thank you. I’m a Windy Citizen fan, too!

I meant to include another blog for you to check out — the photographer has an amazing eye for architectural detail and loves to beguile his viewers with tidbits of information. I love the stuff!

Lee, this commercial building which you locate at 107th Pl & Western… How old/new is this building. I’m an ol’ Beverly Boy and actually lived at 108th & Western for years(a long time ago), but I’m SO unaware of this building. Could you share a few more details about it? Thanks
Louis
Lee, forget it. I figured it out. This building’s narrow face is on Western, not its length. I know this building. It’s across the street from Chesterfield Savings.
